Principal Scientist - Cell and Molecular Biology
(Cell and Molecular Biology Group)

We currently have a superb opportunity for a Principal Scientist, with post-doctoral and industrial experience, to join us and assist in the development of cutting-edge instrumentation, novel bioassays and biochips. As a Principal Scientist, you will lead a Cell and Molecular Biology team, and will support the Company’s R&D objectives. You will be responsible for delivering biology-related activities, managing interdisciplinary projects while liaising with internal/external experts, therefore excellent communication skills are essential.

The candidate will have a PhD (or an equivalent technical background) in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or Biochemistry with demonstrated leadership abilities. Molecular biology skills and cell culture skills together with experience in experimental design, assay optimisation and microfluidics will be essential.

Salary range: £35,000-£45,000 per annum.

Senior Scientist/Scientist - Cell and Molecular Biology
(Cell and Molecular Biology Group)

We currently have a great opportunity for a scientist, preferentially with post-doctoral experience, to assist in the development of a cutting-edge instrumentation, novel bioassays and biochips. You will join the Cell and Molecular Biology team and will be responsible for delivering cell-based assays using primary cells or engineered cell lines, characterisation of high antibody secretor cells or rare cell from populations in e.g. FRET, AlphaLISA or luciferase assays in biotherapeutic, oncology or stem cell research projects. You will also be involved in external and internal multidisciplinary projects, while liaising with internal/external experts, therefore excellent communication skills are required.

The candidate should have a PhD in Immunology/Cell Biology. It is also essential that they have experience in experimental design and assay optimisation. Furthermore, skills in primary cell culture and isolation, ELISA, FRET or TR-FRET, AlphaLISA, imaging methods, immunofluorescence and flow cytometry are also essential. A candidate with a proven scientific peer-reviewed publication record and hands on approach to assay development is preferred.

Salary range: £30,000-£35,000 per annum.

To meet the requirements of this role you should have:

* A PhD in Immunology or Cell Biology;

* High level experience with primary and mammalian cell culture;

* Experience in primary cell isolation;

* Expertise in cell based assays, e.g. proliferation assays;

* High level of expertise in bio-assays such as ELISA, immunofluorescence and flow cytometry;

* Experience in analytical characterisation and expression of antibodies;

* Very good knowledge and experience of FRET, TR-FRET, AlphaLISA and reporter assays;

* Able to work independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team to fast timescales and with strong attention to detail;

* Excellent problem solving ability with an independent approach to projects;

* A positive, flexible and self-motivated character;

* Excellent verbal, documentation and communications skills;

In addition, experience of the following would be advantageous:

Engineer / Senior Engineer
(Physics and Engineering Group)

We are looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer or Scientist with a proven experience in the development of laboratory instrumentation. The candidate will have a PhD or equivalent technical background (gained through working in industry) in engineering, physics or a related area. Experience in design, construction and integration of mechanical and electronic systems with software is essential. The candidate should have proven technical ability and be able to demonstrate direct hands-on approach to problem solving. Self-motivation and a drive towards continual personal and technical improvement is essential. Previous experience working in an R&D environment from prototype to product launch is desirable, though not essential. Previous experience with microfluidics and associated technologies would be advantageous.

Salary range: £30,000-£35,000 per annum.

* A postgraduate degree (e.g. MEng, MSc) from a leading university, or relevant industrial experience gained while employed in a leading engineering company.

* Hands-on experience with optical, mechanical and electrical systems.

* Experience interfacing software with various sensors and actuators, including instrument control and data capture (e.g. LabVIEW™, Matlab).

The candidate will have a strong technical background gained through working in industry (or in academia). Experience in design, construction and integration of software with mechanical and electronic systems is essential. The candidate should have proven technical ability and be able to demonstrate direct hands-on approach to problem solving. Self-motivation and a drive towards continual personal and technical improvement is essential. Previous experience working in an R&D environment for prototype through to product launch is desirable, though not essential. Previous experience working with electrical, mechanical and optical systems would be advantageous.

Salary range: £35,000-£40,000 per annum.
